The chapter is organised as follows: First, we make a brief overview of research findings concerning the main characteristics of owner relationships and how they can be used and to what consequences. In the next section, we use some published studies to illustrate in more detail the different roles of owner relationships. In the final section, we discuss the importance of awareness of owner relationships – for the owned firm and the owner, as well as for policy and other governmental and non-governmental actors with an interest in network design.
